ABOUT THE COMPANY

History

Born and brought up in Harrogate, Mr C K Batchelor originally founded the business as a carpenter and joiner in 1935.

He constructed his first houses in Harrogate before 1939 and continued to expand his business after the war and during the 1950s.

His eldest son, Mr J A Batchelor joined the business in 1963 following a period of time spent gaining construction industry experience working in Leeds and Cambridge.

The business was converted to a privately owned company in 1971 and has continued to develop its core activities of high quality residential development and general contracting.

(1913 - 1991)

Mr J A Batchelor was appointed Managing Director in 1983 and he continues in this position to this day.

The business is now being carried forward by the third generation of the family, Mr D H Batchelor, Mr A C Batchelor and Mr P J Batchelor.

Our team

We currently directly employ around 80 people comprising tradesmen, general building operatives and 13 office-based staff.

Mr J A Batchelor MRICS MCIOB Chairman and Managing Director
John joined the company in 1963 and succeeded his father as Managing Director on the latter's retirement.

Mr D H Batchelor Housing Development Director
Attended Nottingham University before joining a division of the AMEC group. David left to join C K Batchelor Ltd in 1991 and was appointed a Director in 1999.

Mr A C Batchelor BSc(Econ) ACA Financial Director
Trained as a Chartered Accountant after graduating from the London School of Economics and subsequently spent two years working in Geneva. Andrew returned to the UK in 1996 to join the family business and was appointed a Director in 1999.

Mr R J Brooks Company Secretary
Richard joined the business as a teenager in 1957 and was appointed Company Secretary in 1988. The achievement of completing 40 years of loyal service was marked with a celebration dinner at a local hotel.

Mr P J Batchelor BSc(Hons) MRICS ICIOB Contracting Manager
After graduating from Salford University, Paul joined the Building Surveying partnership of Hawley & Partners in 1994 before going on to work for the property division of HSBC Bank plc. Paul joined C K Batchelor Ltd in 2001.
